I did exactly what the tutorial says and the smoothing deformer doesn't work, I don't understand why. Do you have an idea why it won't piece of work? Tnaks!
What version of C4D are you using? I've institute through feedback that unfortunately if yous're using a version of C4D prior to R15 patently the Smoothing Deformer doesn't work with Metaball.
Information technology must be information technology…I'm using C4D R13. :(

Hey EJ fascinated by your work on c4d projects, have i favour to enquire near a video though. Could you do a tutorial on fade out animations? Recently started using c4d myself but I was told that fade animations are kinda tricky or not possible in c4d.
Hi EJ. Commencement off thank you for the tutorials and models, they're great for a noob like me. Also actually digging the lessons on Lynda. Only curious if yous know perchance what's happening here. I made a flame of my own in the attached editor image. Just when I render, I get this ball that sputters tiny specs of burn as oppose to the big flame, lol. No worries if you lot're non certain what's happening, you've been a big plenty assist already.

Looks fine in the return preview, but then when its rendered to the movie viewer it looks totally different :Southward
Might want to check the render and viewport subdivisions on the Metaball! If those dont match up youll see a difference in viewport render vs. actual render.
Hey EJ, sweet tutorial. Are you non able to do multiple instances of this flame? I tried to copy information technology and offset information technology merely it wasn't showing up. Does it have to practice with the metaball?
Hey There! Not sure, youd accept to brand certain you copy everything and Instances won't work because I dont believe Particles work with Instances
i'm using c4d 15.008 simply still the smoothing not working
That'south not the latest version, should exist a newer version than that where the smoothing is stock-still

I am also having aforementioned problem in final render. Even Return and viewport subdivision values are also aforementioned . Actual render just doesn't come out close to the viewport return.

Hey Im using R14 hence the smoothing is not working. Is there any workaround for this without needing to upgrade to R15? Such as baking the metaball or some sort so that the smoothing deformer can read 'em? Anyways its a keen tutorial withal. Its just that this bugs me a lot. would love to notice a solution without spending money upgrading to R15.

I managed to become a forest result using an additional paradigm layer (searched drawing woods grain on google images – chose a unproblematic black and white 1) on the cell shader, then setting it to multiply, with a depression transparency (20-30%).
is there whatever culling to make this effect on c4d r15?
If you update to the latest version of R15 (in that location was a service pack update) this will work perfectly!

I know this is an old tutorial now, but I but wanted to say I still call back it's slap-up, and as far every bit I tin can encounter online it'south totally unique.
My only trouble is that when I was doing the material for colouring, I could not attain the same issue equally you. When using the default spherical projection it colours the bottom half i colour and the top half the other colour. The only option that got close was past using 'shrink wrapping' as my project, just fifty-fifty that was apparently not the same as yours. Curious to know what options you employ, as my material and shader settings are identical to what you utilize in the tutorial.
Though I'm using R21, so perhaps things take changed since and so.
Hey Neil thank you! The coloring is using Sketch & Toon via lights, and so information technology's all light based and using the Cel Shader materials to command where the gradient is mapped. Hope that helps!
